UK’s Automobile Manufacturing Continues to Decline

The data released by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) on August 30 showed that UK vehicle production fell by 11% in July 2018 and by 4.4% in the first seven months of the year. SMMT Chairman Mike Hawes stated that sector’s manufacturing is adversely affected by Brexit uncertainty, but that monthly fluctuations may be due to different reasons such as operational changes and supply and demand balance. On the other hand, in the first half of 2018, investment in the sector decreased almost by half compared to the same period of 2017, from £ 647 million to £ 347.3 million.

Another news about the sector came from the British white goods manufacturer Dyson. The company currently working on a prototype of an electric car is to create a new field where the prototype vehicles can be tested by investing £ 116 million in the field of Wiltshire Hullavington, and it is announced that the first vehicles will be introduced to the market in 2021.
